Adele

ADELE

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (born 5 May 1988), better known mononymously as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter. Adele was offered a recording contract from XL Recordings after a friend posted her demos on Myspace in 2006. The next year she received the Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19 was released in 2008 to much commercial and critical success in the UK. 19 was certified four times platinum in the UK.Her career in the US was boosted by a Saturday Night Live appearance in late 2008. Adele released her second album, 21 in 2011.The album was well received critically and surpassed the success of her debut commercially. 21 has been certified 14 times platinum in the UK; in the US the album became the longest an album has held the top position since 1998.

The success of 21 earned Adele numerous mentions in the Guinness Book Of World Records. She is the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK.With her two albums and the first two singles from 21, "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You", Adele became the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964. 21 is the longest running number one album by a female solo artist on the UK albums chart and the tied for the longest cumulative stay at number one by a female solo artist as well.Adele has also received two Grammy awards, for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

19 is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Adele. It was released on 28 January 2008, the week after the lead single, "Chasing Pavements", was physically released. It debuted at number one on the UK charts on its first week.Included is a cover of the Bob Dylan song "Make You Feel My Love" from his 1997 album, Time Out of Mind. As of December 2011, worldwide sales for the album is an estimated 6.5 million copies.

                                                                                21
                                                                             (2011)

21 is the second studio album by English recording artist Adele. Released on 24 January 2011 in the United Kingdom and most of Europe, and on 22 February 2011 in North America, the album was named after the age of the singer at the time of its production. 21 shares the folk and Motown influences of Adele's debut album 19, also named after the singer's age, but was further shaped by the American country and southern blues music she encountered during her 2008–09 North American tour, An Evening with Adele. Composed in the aftermath of the singer's separation from an unnamed partner, the album typifies the near dormant tradition of the confessional singer-songwriter, and explores themes of anger, revenge, heartbreak, self-examination, and forgiveness.

Adele began composing material for a second album as early as April 2009, while still involved in the relationship that subsequently inspired the record. Dissatisfied with once again portraying herself as the musical tragedian of her debut, the singer had intended on a more upbeat and contemporary second album. However, studio sessions ended prematurely due to a lack of inspiration. She resumed production immediately after the breakdown of her relationship, channeling her heartbreak and depression into the composition of her songs. Adele collaborated with an eclectic team of songwriters and producers, which included Columbia Records co-president Rick Rubin, Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Jim Abbiss, and Dan Wilson. Upon its release, the album was commended as an artistic improvement over the singer's debut, and achieved critical acclaim for its understated production, vintage authenticity, lyrical depth, as well as Adele's vocal performance.

21 defied the modest commercial expectations of Adele's indie record label XL Recordings, and became a sleeper hit in 2011. It topped the main albums chart in over 26 countries, and appeared in the 2012 Guinness World Records for its record-breaking chart performance. The UK's best selling album of the 21st century in less than a year of its release, its 20-week tenure atop the UK Albums Chart is the longest by a solo artist. 21 also set all time records in various countries, and its three singles—"Rolling in the Deep", "Someone Like You", "Set Fire to the Rain"—were worldwide number-one hits. With global sales of 17 million copies as of January 2012, 21 was 2011's best selling musical release by a considerable margin. The media scrambled to ascertain the nature of the album's enigmatic popularity with audiences across the world, and critics in the U.S. viewed its reception as a radical shift in the status quo of an overtly sexual and sonically bombastic music industry.
